For many women, pregnancy is one of the most beautiful experiences.
However, depending on age, course, physical condition and the state of the connective tissue, pregnancy and the subsequent breastfeeding period can often also lead to changes in the body from which many women suffer permanently.
These changes are perceived as particularly distressing when they can hardly or not at all be corrected by consistent postnatal exercises, discipline in diet and exercise or skin care.
Frequently asked questions about the mommy makeover
Which regions are particularly affected?
During pregnancy, the breasts are put under particular strain by hormonal influences and a possible breastfeeding period and can then show corresponding changes. Significant sagging and a loss of the breast fullness that existed before are common. Enlargement or loss of roundness of the areolas and slack nipples are also often perceived as bothersome.
Furthermore, changes in shape occur on the abdomen and waist, usually showing as significant sagging of the lower abdomen and the “loss” of a feminine hourglass waist. Many women also complain of instability of the abdominal wall with separation of the straight abdominal muscles (so-called diastasis recti). This leads to typical bulges on the lower abdomen and can even cause nausea and pain during sports and when the abdominal wall is bumped.
Other bothersome changes affect the abdominal skin and navel region. Stretch marks (tears in the deeper layers of the skin) or an unsightly and sometimes painful caesarean section scar should be mentioned here in particular. Even in the intimate area, childbirth can lead to unwanted changes such as slackening or bothersome protrusion of the inner labia, for example.
The changes are therefore very diverse and are also perceived as bothersome to very different degrees by the women affected.
So what is a mommy makeover?
The so-called “mommy makeover” comprises the surgical corrections of changes caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding. Many of these changes can be specifically corrected in one or more surgical steps and can make a significant contribution to helping you feel self-confident and attractive as a woman again.
Because of the differing levels of distress and the varying extent of the changes described, a treatment concept tailored to you is required. Sometimes only very small external corrections are necessary; in other cases, much more complex surgical techniques are needed.
What are typical surgical corrections as part of a “mommy makeover”?
- Approaches that improve the skin and scars, such as microneedling and lipofilling (autologous fat treatment)
- Surgical scar corrections (e.g. of the caesarean section scar)
- Mini tummy tuck (surgical removal of sagging skin on the lower abdomen without repositioning the navel)
- Classic tummy tuck with navel repositioning (abdominoplasty)
- Changes to the shape of the navel (e.g. in the case of slackening or an umbilical hernia)
- Closure of a painful or impairing diastasis recti (internal tightening of the abdominal wall)
- Breast augmentation and/or breast lift with or without implants
- Body-shaping treatments such as liposuction or lipofilling (autologous fat transfer), e.g. for waist contouring and breast shaping
- Corrections of the inner and outer labia or the clitoral hood (e.g. labiaplasty)
How much does a mommy makeover cost?
As the changes, requirements and wishes of the women affected are very different, the resulting treatment costs must also be determined just as individually, in addition to individual advice. They are based on the surgical extent, the type of anesthesia and whether outpatient or inpatient treatment is required.
I will be happy to advise you in detail on your concerns and wishes and draw up an individual treatment concept for you, stating the treatment costs incurred in each case.
