Volume restoration and skin tightening with collagen stimulation
If you want a fresher, more defined facial expression without having to resort to surgery, treatment with Radiesse® is an extremely effective option. Radiesse is an injectable filler based on calcium hydroxylapatite that also belongs to the group of biostimulators and thus differs fundamentally from classic hyaluronic acid fillers. In my practice in Stuttgart, I use Radiesse specifically where both an immediately visible build-up of volume and contour and a lasting improvement in skin quality through stimulation of the body's own collagen production are desired, for example on the cheeks, along the jawline, on the chin or on the backs of the hands.
The special appeal of this treatment lies in its dual mode of action, because Radiesse not only gives the skin immediate structure and support but also stimulates the tissue to produce its own collagen over weeks, resulting in firmer, tighter skin. As a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery with many years of experience in injection treatment, a natural result that underlines your features rather than changing them is particularly important to me. On this page, you will learn what Radiesse is exactly, how it works, which areas it is suitable for and what costs you can expect.

What is Radiesse®?
A biostimulator based on calcium hydroxylapatite
Radiesse is an injectable filler whose active ingredient consists of calcium hydroxylapatite, CaHA for short, a mineral calcium phosphate compound that also occurs naturally in a similar form in the human body, for example in bones. In the preparation, very fine CaHA microspheres are suspended in a water-based carrier gel, and it is precisely this interplay that produces the special effect. The carrier gel gives the treated region immediate volume and support, while the microspheres form a kind of scaffold in the tissue and stimulate processes associated with the formation of new collagen by the body.
Because Radiesse not only fills in this way but stimulates the tissue to become active itself, it is one of the so-called biostimulators. This effect, known as neocollagenesis, clearly distinguishes Radiesse from pure hyaluronic acid fillers, which only provide volume and moisture. It is also important to know that Radiesse is not a permanent implant, as both the carrier gel and the microspheres are broken down naturally by the body over time.
How Radiesse works: the dual effect
Immediate contour and long-term tightening in one
The great advantage of Radiesse over many other procedures lies in its two-phase mode of action, which combines an immediately visible improvement with a lasting effect that develops over weeks.
Phase 1: Immediate support and contour
Immediately after the injection, the carrier gel lifts sunken areas and defines the contours, making the cheeks look fuller and the jawline or chin more defined. The volume effect is therefore immediately apparent, although initial swelling can still influence the first impression, so the final result can only be assessed after complete healing.
Phase 2: Collagen build-up over several weeks
While the carrier gel is gradually broken down by the body, the remaining CaHA microspheres stimulate the skin's fibroblasts to produce new collagen of their own. In this way, the firmness and structure of the skin develop further step by step, so that the result is not only maintained but even improves in quality. It is precisely this regenerative component that makes Radiesse so valuable, as it counteracts skin aging in a natural way rather than merely compensating for a deficit.
Areas of application for Radiesse treatment
Wherever structure and contour are needed
Due to its firm, structuring properties, Radiesse is particularly suitable for areas where support, contour and definition are important. Proven areas of application include:
- Cheeks and midface: With age-related volume loss, the cheeks can be specifically supported and the facial contour harmoniously balanced without creating a filled-in appearance.
- Jawline and chin: A jawline that has become softer can be more clearly defined again through targeted support, and the profile balance can be improved at the chin.
- Nasolabial folds: With a suitable indication, deeper structures can be supported, thereby softening pronounced folds from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
- Backs of the hands: On the hands, which often betray age particularly clearly, Radiesse can cushion the tissue and make protruding tendons and veins less visible.
- Neck and décolleté: To improve skin quality and firmness in areas that show signs of aging early.
For very fine, thin and highly mobile zones such as the lips, however, Radiesse is not suitable; other procedures such as hyaluronic acid are used here. I assess which application makes sense in your case individually as part of the consultation.
Radiesse for skin rejuvenation: biostimulation instead of volume
The diluted application for visibly fresher, firmer skin
As versatile as Radiesse is in contouring, I would like to introduce a second form of application here that is particularly important for my practice and differs fundamentally from classic volume restoration. Radiesse can be used not only to create volume and contour but also, in a special, diluted form, as a pure skin rejuvenation treatment, which is expressly not about building volume but solely about lastingly improving skin quality by stimulating the body's own collagen.
In this form of treatment, Radiesse is injected into the skin using a particularly gentle, area-wide technique, so that the biostimulating effect of calcium hydroxylapatite can be used specifically for skin rejuvenation without any volume effect. The result is skin that becomes increasingly firmer, denser and fresher-looking over the weeks, with a structure that regenerates from within. Precisely because this approach strengthens the skin at cellular level rather than merely filling it, it is one of the most sustainable methods of modern, regenerative skin rejuvenation.
Ideal for thin-skinned and prematurely aged areas
This diluted application of Radiesse is particularly suitable for body regions with thin, prematurely aged skin that would react sensitively to pure volume restoration and where it is solely about improving skin structure and firmness. The classic areas of use for this skin rejuvenation treatment include:
- Décolleté: One of the most sensitive zones and one of the first to age, where fine lines and declining skin density can be visibly improved through biostimulation.
- Backs of the hands: The hands betray age particularly clearly, and the area-wide application improves skin quality here without artificially plumping up the backs of the hands.
- Skin above the knees and other areas: Firmness and structure can also be improved naturally in other places with sagging, thin skin.
I perform this treatment using a blunt, atraumatic technique that protects the tissue as much as possible and is perceived by the vast majority of patients as practically painless. It is precisely this combination of gentle technique, natural collagen stimulation and the absence of any volume effect that makes the diluted Radiesse treatment one of my preferred methods when it comes to genuine, lasting skin rejuvenation in demanding areas.
Volume or skin rejuvenation: two paths, one active ingredient
In summary, Radiesse can therefore be used in two fundamentally different ways, which makes the treatment so valuable and versatile. In its classic form, it serves to build volume and contour the face, for example on the cheeks, chin and jawline, where it is a direct alternative to hyaluronic acid. In its diluted form, on the other hand, it serves exclusively to rejuvenate the skin through biostimulation and is applied over an area on thin-skinned regions. I carefully assess which of these two paths is right for your personal concern in the consultation, because only a precise analysis of your skin and your goals determines the optimal approach.
Who is Radiesse suitable for?
When contour and skin quality are to be improved at the same time
Radiesse is particularly suitable for people who want to compensate for age-related or congenital volume loss, support the facial contour and at the same time lastingly improve the tissue structure. As Radiesse is firm and structuring, it is the ideal choice for anyone who is less concerned with soft fullness than with definition, support and skin firmness.
As well tolerated as the treatment generally is, a careful medical check of whether it is suitable in the individual case is just as important. Treatment is not advisable, among other things, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the case of acute inflammation or infection in the treatment area, known hypersensitivity to components, or certain autoimmune or coagulation disorders. Precisely because calcium hydroxylapatite, unlike hyaluronic acid, cannot be dissolved enzymatically, the treatment belongs exclusively in experienced specialist hands, as a precise assessment of the indication and exact placement are of particular importance here.

The consultation
The basis for a natural result
Every Radiesse treatment begins with a personal consultation in which I first get a precise picture of your facial anatomy, your skin condition and your wishes. I do not assess a single wrinkle in isolation but look at the proportions, skin quality and movement of the entire area, because only then can I avoid using too much volume or choosing a procedure that does not match the cause of your concern.
An important part of this assessment is the honest evaluation of whether Radiesse is actually the most suitable method for your concern or whether hyaluronic acid, another biostimulator or a combination would make more sense in your case. I explain transparently what Radiesse can achieve and where its limits lie, and then draw up an individual treatment concept for you, including the procedure, expected result and costs.
The Radiesse treatment procedure
Gentle, precise and without long downtime
Radiesse treatment is minimally invasive and completely non-surgical. After careful cleansing and disinfection of the treatment area and, if desired, the application of an anesthetic cream, I inject the active ingredient specifically into the intended tissue layer using a fine needle or a blunt cannula. I distribute and model the material in a controlled manner to achieve a natural, harmonious contour, continuously paying attention to the symmetry of both halves of the face.
Depending on the area and extent, the actual treatment usually takes about 20 to 45 minutes. Thanks to the fine instruments and the optional anesthetic cream, the vast majority of patients find it well tolerated. Because the treatment is so gentle and involves practically no downtime, you can go out in public immediately afterwards, although slight redness, swelling or small bruises at the injection sites are possible, which quickly subside.

After the treatment: result, durability and aftercare
A result that continues to develop over weeks
With Radiesse, a volume effect is usually visible immediately after the treatment, but it may initially be affected by swelling, so the healed result only becomes apparent after a few days. The real added value then develops over several weeks, as the stimulated collagen formation gradually improves the firmness and structure of the skin further. How long the result lasts depends on individual metabolism, the treated area and the amount of material, but a durability of about twelve to eighteen months can generally be expected. As the material is broken down slowly by the body, the result can be maintained with a top-up after medical assessment.
For the time immediately after the treatment, I recommend not touching or massaging the treated area unnecessarily on the day of treatment, avoiding intensive sports, saunas, solariums and strong heat for about 24 to 48 hours and using consistent sun protection. I will give you individual instructions, for example on any remodeling, after the treatment.
Possible risks and side effects
When performed professionally, Radiesse treatment is considered safe and well tolerated; nevertheless, it is a medical procedure that can be accompanied by certain, usually harmless, side effects.
- Redness, swelling and tenderness: These temporary reactions at the injection sites are normal and usually subside within a few days.
- Small bruises: Small hematomas may temporarily appear at the injection sites.
- Palpable irregularities or nodules: Possible in rare cases, which is why precise placement and dosage are so important.
- Very rare complications: As with any filler treatment, infections, hypersensitivity reactions or, very rarely, vascular occlusions are possible in principle.
An honest note is particularly important to me at this point, because unlike hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite cannot be dissolved enzymatically but is broken down exclusively by the body. For exactly this reason, the experience of the treating doctor, restrained dosing and precise, anatomically correct placement are of decisive importance with Radiesse, and this very specialist care is the best protection against complications. I will discuss all points relevant to you in detail before the treatment.
Radiesse or hyaluronic acid?
Two different materials with different strengths
Radiesse and hyaluronic acid are not interchangeable products but serve different purposes, which is why the choice depends on the respective goal and the tissue. Radiesse is rather firm and structuring; it supports contours and also stimulates collagen formation, which is why it is particularly suitable for contouring larger areas such as the cheeks, chin and jawline. Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is softer depending on the product, binds moisture and can be dissolved again with an enzyme if necessary, making it the preferred choice for finer and softer corrections and for sensitive zones such as the lips.
An important difference is the aforementioned inability to dissolve Radiesse enzymatically, which requires a particularly careful assessment of the indication and precise injection. In many cases, the two materials complement each other excellently, with Radiesse creating the supporting structure and hyaluronic acid being used for fine detail work. Which path is right for you is something we clarify together in the consultation.
Radiesse compared to other biostimulators
Instant effect meets collagen build-up
Radiesse belongs to the group of biostimulators, which also includes the polylactic acid Sculptra and polynucleotides. All these procedures stimulate the body's own regeneration in their own way, but differ in their approach. While Sculptra relies purely on gradual collagen build-up over several sessions and initially offers hardly any immediate volume, Radiesse combines both: an immediate supporting effect and subsequent collagen build-up.
Polynucleotides, in turn, take a somewhat different approach, primarily improving skin quality, hydration and cell regeneration without building significant volume. For you, this variety means above all one thing: that the right procedure or the most sensible combination can be found for almost every concern, which I assess individually for you in the consultation.
Cost of Radiesse treatment in Stuttgart
Transparent prices for your individual treatment
The cost of Radiesse treatment depends on the treated area, the amount of material required and the individual extent of treatment. In my practice in Stuttgart, treatment with Radiesse starts at around €500 per 1.5 milliliters. As the exact requirement depends on your findings and your goals, I determine the specific treatment price individually and draw up a transparent cost estimate for you following the consultation, so that you know the intended extent and the costs before you decide.
I deliberately work in a results-oriented and conceptual way, because the focus is always on the best possible and most natural result for you and not on thinking in mere units. As this is a purely aesthetic treatment, the costs are not covered by health insurance.

Frequently asked questions about Radiesse treatment
What is Radiesse and what is it made of?
Radiesse is an injectable filler based on calcium hydroxylapatite, CaHA for short, a mineral compound that also occurs naturally in a similar form in the human body. In the preparation, very fine CaHA microspheres are suspended in a water-based carrier gel.
The carrier gel provides immediate volume and support, while the microspheres stimulate the body's own collagen production. For this reason, Radiesse does not belong to the classic fillers but to the group of biostimulators.
How does Radiesse work?
Radiesse works in two phases. Immediately after injection, the carrier gel provides an immediately visible build-up of volume and contour, making the cheeks look fuller and the jawline or chin more defined. This first effect is immediately apparent.
In the second phase, the CaHA microspheres stimulate the formation of the body's own collagen over several weeks, gradually further improving the firmness and structure of the skin. This dual effect of immediate support and long-term tightening makes Radiesse particularly valuable.
Which areas is Radiesse suitable for?
Due to its firm, structuring properties, Radiesse is particularly suitable for areas where support and contour are important. Typical areas of application are the cheeks and midface, the jawline and chin, the nasolabial folds and the backs of the hands. Radiesse can also improve skin quality on the neck and décolleté.
For very fine, thin and highly mobile zones such as the lips, however, Radiesse is not suitable; other procedures such as hyaluronic acid are used here. Which application makes sense in an individual case is determined individually in the consultation.
What is the difference between Radiesse and hyaluronic acid?
Radiesse and hyaluronic acid are not interchangeable products. Radiesse is rather firm and structuring, supports contours and also stimulates collagen formation, which is why it is particularly suitable for contouring larger areas such as the cheeks, chin and jawline.
Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is softer depending on the product, binds moisture and can be dissolved enzymatically if necessary, making it the preferred choice for finer corrections and sensitive zones such as the lips. In many cases, the two materials complement each other, with Radiesse creating the supporting structure and hyaluronic acid being used for fine detail work.
Can Radiesse be dissolved?
Unlike hyaluronic acid, Radiesse cannot be dissolved enzymatically with an antidote. Instead, the calcium hydroxylapatite is gradually broken down naturally by the body over time.
For exactly this reason, the experience of the treating doctor, restrained dosing and precise, anatomically correct placement are of particular importance with Radiesse. Specialist care is the best protection against undesired results.
Is Radiesse a biostimulator?
Yes, Radiesse belongs to the group of biostimulators because it stimulates the tissue to become active itself and promotes the formation of the body's own collagen, a process known as neocollagenesis. This distinguishes it from pure fillers, which only fill.
Compared to other biostimulators such as the polylactic acid Sculptra, which relies primarily on gradual collagen build-up, Radiesse also offers an immediately visible supporting effect. Polynucleotides, in turn, mainly improve skin quality without building significant volume.
How does Radiesse treatment work?
After careful cleansing and disinfection of the treatment area and, if desired, the application of an anesthetic cream, the active ingredient is injected specifically into the intended tissue layer using a fine needle or a blunt cannula and modeled in a controlled manner.
Depending on the area and extent, the actual treatment usually takes about 20 to 45 minutes. Thanks to the fine instruments and the optional anesthetic cream, most patients find it well tolerated, and there is practically no downtime.
Is Radiesse treatment painful?
The injection may be felt as a slight prick, pressure or tightness, but most patients find it easy to tolerate. An anesthetic cream can make the treatment even more comfortable.
After the treatment, the treated area may be somewhat sensitive to pressure for a while. Individual perception varies, but overall it is a gentle procedure with little strain.
When can you see the result after Radiesse treatment?
A volume effect is usually visible immediately after the treatment, but it may initially be affected by slight swelling, so the healed result only becomes apparent after a few days.
The real added value then develops over several weeks, as the stimulated collagen formation gradually improves the firmness and structure of the skin further. The final result can therefore not be conclusively assessed immediately after the injection.
How long does Radiesse last?
Radiesse usually lasts about twelve to eighteen months, but this depends on individual factors such as the treated area, the amount of material, metabolism and lifestyle.
As the material is broken down slowly and naturally by the body, the result decreases over time and can be maintained with a top-up after medical assessment. Whether and when a repeat treatment makes sense depends on the remaining effect and the tissue, not on a fixed calendar.
Who is Radiesse suitable for and who not?
Radiesse is particularly suitable for people who want to compensate for age-related or congenital volume loss, support the facial contour and at the same time improve skin quality. Prerequisites are realistic expectations and findings for which the use of calcium hydroxylapatite makes sense.
Treatment is not performed, among other things, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the case of acute inflammation or infection in the treatment area, known hypersensitivity to components, or certain autoimmune or coagulation disorders. Exact suitability is clarified in the medical consultation.
What are the risks and side effects of Radiesse?
When performed professionally, Radiesse is considered safe and well tolerated. Common, mostly temporary side effects include redness, swelling, tenderness and small bruises at the injection sites. Less frequently, palpable irregularities or nodules can occur.
Very rarely, infections, hypersensitivity reactions or, as with any filler treatment, vascular occlusions are possible. As calcium hydroxylapatite cannot be dissolved enzymatically, precise, professional injection is of particular importance. All relevant points are explained before the treatment.
Can Radiesse be combined with other treatments?
Yes, depending on the findings, Radiesse can be part of a coordinated treatment concept. It is often combined with hyaluronic acid, with Radiesse supporting larger areas and hyaluronic acid being used for finer or softer corrections. A combination with other biostimulators or with a thread lift can also make sense if the findings warrant it.
Order, intervals and suitability are always determined individually, because more treatment does not automatically mean a better result. A well-thought-out, coordinated concept takes priority.
How much does Radiesse treatment cost in Stuttgart?
Treatment with Radiesse starts at around €500 per 1.5 milliliters. The actual costs depend on the treated area, the amount of material required and the individual extent of treatment.
After the examination and planning, a transparent cost estimate is drawn up, so that the intended extent and the costs are fixed before you decide. As this is a purely aesthetic treatment, the costs are not covered by health insurance.
