Liposuction Stuttgart
Targeted body contouring with a gentle technique
Liposuction in Stuttgart, medically also referred to as lipoplasty, is one of the most frequently performed procedures in aesthetic plastic surgery worldwide and is also very frequently requested in my practice. Wherever exercise and diet reach their limits and stubborn fat pads cannot be eliminated despite a healthy lifestyle, liposuction can harmonize the body contour in a targeted way. Every procedure is as individual as the person who wants to have it done, which is why I place great emphasis on tailor-made advice and particularly gentle surgical methods.
If you are bothered by individual problem areas on your abdomen, hips, thighs or other parts of the body and are looking for a permanent solution for removing body fat, I am at your side as a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and FEBOPRAS-certified surgeon with many years of experience in liposuction and body contouring. On this page you will find all the important information about the procedure, the body regions that can be treated, aftercare and costs.

Reasons for liposuction in Stuttgart
When liposuction makes sense
Both women and men decide on liposuction for very different reasons, which go far beyond the purely aesthetic and are often deeply rooted in personal goals. In my many years of experience, the most common motives are:
- Stubborn problem areas despite exercise and diet: Certain fat deposits persist regardless of diet and training because their distribution is genetically determined. This is exactly where liposuction comes in.
- Restoring the body shape after pregnancy: After pregnancies, many women want to reshape individual areas such as the hips, thighs or abdomen in a targeted way and regain their body confidence.
- Better muscle definition: Men often strive to make their muscles stand out more clearly, especially in the abdominal and chest area, and to achieve a more athletic physique.
- More self-confidence and a more harmonious body image: For many patients, a balanced body contour has a noticeably positive effect on self-esteem and on how clothes fit.
- Treatment of lipedema: In the case of a pathological fat distribution disorder, so-called lipedema, liposuction can relieve symptoms as a medical treatment. I dedicate a separate section to this topic below.
At this point, an honest note that I emphasize in every consultation is important to me: liposuction is not a method of weight loss, but a procedure for the targeted improvement of body contour. It replaces neither a healthy diet nor sufficient exercise, but starts exactly where these do not lead to the desired result despite consistent efforts. The decision to have the procedure should therefore always be made after careful consideration and expert advice.
Which body regions can be treated with liposuction?
From the abdomen and hips to the double chin
In principle, fat can be suctioned from almost any part of the body where stubborn fat deposits accumulate. The focus is on the classic problem areas that make the body contour look unharmonious. With sufficient surgical experience, however, more demanding areas can also be sculpted very well and finely. The most frequently treated regions include:
- Abdomen and waist: The upper and lower abdomen and the waist region are among the most frequently treated areas, especially to emphasize a defined silhouette.
- Hips and flanks: So-called love handles can be reduced in a targeted way to create a harmonious transition to the waist.
- Thighs: Both the outer thighs, the so-called saddlebags, and the inner thighs are among the classic zones.
- Buttocks and knees: These areas can also be treated to fine-tune the contour of the legs.
- Upper arms: A frequent request, especially when bothersome fat pads persist on the upper arms.
- Back and armpit region: Fat pads on the back and in the armpit area can also be removed well.
- Calves and ankles: Fine contouring of the lower legs requires particular experience, but is possible.
- Face, double chin and cheeks: In the facial area, smaller areas such as a double chin can be treated very precisely.
I will discuss with you in detail in the personal consultation which areas make sense in your case and can be combined in one session, as the decision depends both on your wishes and on medical factors such as the total amount of fat to be removed.
Our quality standards
Individual advice, trust, expertise
Liposuction in my practice is the right choice for you if you value a detailed consultation, personally tailored services and, above all, natural-looking results. Various liposuction techniques are available for contouring and shaping the different areas of the body, and they can also be combined with other procedures such as skin tightening if required. As a specialist in plastic surgery with many years of experience, my own practice and exclusive surgical facilities in selected private clinics, I offer you a more personal alternative to the structure of a large clinic in Stuttgart, because I tailor every treatment individually to the needs of my patients.
When it comes to your liposuction in Stuttgart, you can rely on my more than 16 years of experience, and I will be at your side with all questions about your liposuction. During my career, I was able to gain valuable experience at renowned institutions in Germany and abroad, including specialized centers for body contouring and as a senior physician at a practice specializing in body lifts. This means I not only offer you liposuction itself, but also advise you on combined procedures and on special concerns relating to body contouring. It is important to me that you feel completely comfortable with the result and with the entire treatment process.
The consultation
Carefully supported from the very beginning
In my work, the constant improvement and perfection of my own methods is the top priority, and this applies not only to the operation itself but equally to the careful preparation and follow-up of your fat removal. In a first detailed consultation, we will work out together which liposuction method suits you best, which areas are to be treated, whether you should wear special compression garments after the procedure and whether local anesthesia is sufficient or general anesthesia makes sense. Full transparency regarding the costs goes without saying for me.
Through trusting cooperation with experienced anesthesiologists and other specialists, I ensure that we always choose the safest and most comfortable procedure for you. You receive comprehensive service in an environment that is just as discreet and professional as a specialized clinic, combined with intensive aftercare that ensures your healing process runs optimally and the results are checked regularly. Should I advise against a procedure from a medical point of view, I will tell you openly and, wherever possible, show you alternative options.

Liposuction methods
Gentle procedures for a natural result
For liposuction in Stuttgart, I use various techniques to remove unwanted fat deposits in a targeted and effective way. Which method is best suited to you depends on the amount of fat to be removed, the condition of your skin, your state of health and your individual goals. I always place particular emphasis on treating the tissue as gently as possible, because a gentle approach forms the basis for healing with few complications and a natural result.
Water-jet-assisted liposuction (WAL)
One of my preferred techniques is water-jet-assisted liposuction, WAL for short. In this procedure, the fatty tissue is gently detached from the surrounding tissue with a fine, fan-shaped water jet and suctioned off in the same step. The great advantage of this method lies in how gentle it is on tissue, as sensitive structures such as nerves, blood vessels and lymph vessels are largely preserved. The result is precise fat removal with significantly reduced trauma to the surrounding tissue, which is reflected in less bruising, less swelling and an overall faster recovery. WAL is suitable for smaller areas as well as for larger fat volumes and is also ideal if the harvested fat is to be used for autologous fat transfer.
Manual suction technique for small areas
For particularly small and delicate areas, I additionally rely on the manual suction technique. It allows particularly sensitive and controlled adaptation to individual circumstances and leads to very precise results, especially for fine contouring. By combining the modern water-jet-assisted technique with manual fine work, you receive high-quality treatment that is tailored exactly to your needs.
Liposuction combined with lifts
In some cases, liposuction alone is not enough to achieve an optimal result, for example when, in addition to the fat pads, there is significant excess skin or sagging skin. In such situations, liposuction can usefully be combined with skin tightening, for example with a tummy tuck, an arm lift or a thigh lift. In the consultation, I assess whether and which combination makes sense in your case based on your skin condition and your wishes, in order to achieve a coherent overall result for you.

Liposuction for lipedema
Targeted treatment of a pathological fat distribution disorder
A special case of liposuction is the treatment of lipedema, a chronic and painful fat distribution disorder that affects women almost exclusively. It is characterized by disproportionate fat accumulations, mainly on the hips, buttocks and legs, which cannot be reduced despite consistent dieting and sufficient exercise. Those affected often suffer from a feeling of tightness, pain and an increased tendency to bruise. Unlike purely aesthetic liposuction, this is a medical treatment that can relieve symptoms and improve quality of life in the long term.
Water-jet-assisted liposuction is currently considered the most effective method for removing the diseased fatty tissue in lipedema in a targeted and particularly gentle way. Since, depending on the stage and under certain conditions, coverage of costs by health insurance may even be possible, the consultation and planning differ in some respects from those of purely aesthetic liposuction.
Detailed information on diagnosis, the individual stages, the procedure and possible cost coverage can be found on my dedicated page on lipedema treatment in Stuttgart.

Requirements and preparation for liposuction
How to create the best conditions for a good result
For liposuction to be performed sensibly and safely, certain requirements should be met. I discuss these with you in detail in the consultation; the most important points at a glance are:
- Good general health: You should be free of conditions that could impair wound healing. Existing conditions should be well controlled.
- Sufficient skin elasticity: Good skin tone is important so that the skin can adapt optimally to the new contour after the fat has been removed.
- Avoiding nicotine: You should avoid tobacco and nicotine before and after liposuction, as nicotine impairs wound healing and can promote complications.
- Realistic expectations: A clear understanding of what liposuction can and cannot achieve is the basis for your satisfaction with the result.
- Stable body weight: Since liposuction serves to contour and not to reduce weight, a largely stable weight and a healthy lifestyle are the best prerequisites for a lasting result.
Good preparation also includes making sure you get enough rest in the days before the procedure, completing important tasks in advance and, if necessary, organizing support for the first period after the operation. You will receive all further individual instructions from my practice in good time.
The liposuction procedure
From marking to gentle suction
Before the actual liposuction begins, we carry out thorough preparation, which includes not only the medical assessment but also a detailed discussion in which we talk about your wishes and expectations and precisely define the areas to be treated. On the day of the operation, I personally mark the areas to be treated on your skin with the utmost care while you are standing, as these markings serve as a precise guide for me during the procedure.
Depending on the extent of the treatment and your personal preference, the liposuction itself is performed under local or general anesthesia. We make this decision together on the basis of a comprehensive medical assessment and your personal preferences. For smaller areas, local anesthesia, combined with twilight sedation if necessary, is often a good option, while general anesthesia is usually recommended for larger areas, during which you are continuously monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist.
As soon as the anesthesia has taken effect, I begin gently removing the excess fatty tissue. To do this, I insert a fine cannula through very small skin incisions and use it to precisely suction off the previously loosened fatty tissue. The entire process is individually tailored to you, because the amount of fat to be removed and the characteristics of the treatment areas vary considerably from person to person. My goal is always a natural and harmonious result that meets your expectations and contributes to your well-being. At the end of the operation, the compression garment is put on you in the operating room, supporting the healing process over the coming weeks.
After liposuction
Professional aftercare for your well-being
Planning and performing liposuction is only one part of the overall process, because after the procedure intensive and continuous aftercare is crucial for your result. To meet this standard, I follow up with you closely for a period of at least one year after the operation. During this time, I am not only available to you at the agreed regular follow-up appointments, but I expressly invite you to contact me at any time, including by phone, with questions, concerns or uncertainties.
In the first one to two weeks after the procedure, you should take it easy physically and avoid strenuous exertion. Depending on the course of healing and the treated region, most patients are able to go out in public again after about two to seven days. With light office work, you can usually return to work after about one week; for physically demanding work, a break of about two weeks is recommended. A central element of aftercare is the compression garment, which you should wear consistently for at least six weeks, as it counteracts swelling, promotes tissue regeneration and contributes significantly to the even shaping of the treated region. In addition, careful scar care of the small incision sites and consistent sun protection are advisable.
Depending on the sport and the treated region, you should refrain from sporting activities for about one to six weeks and then increase the strain slowly after consulting me. A first visible result appears as soon as the initial swelling has subsided, but the final result can only be assessed after a few months, once the tissue has completely settled and the skin has adapted to the new contour. Throughout this phase, I want to be at your side as a companion who, just like you, strives for the best possible result, which is why I ask you to follow my instructions and recommendations consistently. In addition, you will receive a detailed information document from me to serve as a guide for the time after liposuction.
Risks of liposuction
Liposuction is an established procedure for improving body contour that has few complications when performed professionally; nevertheless, like any surgical procedure, it involves certain risks, which I will explain to you openly and fully before the operation.
- Swelling and bruising: In the first few weeks, swelling and bruising in the treated area are normal and usually subside within a few weeks. The gentle water-jet technique helps to keep them to a minimum.
- Uneven contours: In rare cases, dents, ripples or slight irregularities can develop in the treated area. My experience and a careful, even approach minimize this risk.
- Changes in skin sensitivity: Numbness or hypersensitivity in the surgical area may occur temporarily, which in most cases returns to normal over time.
- Infections: As with any procedure, infections are possible in principle, but very rare thanks to the highest hygiene standards in the private clinics I use.
- Thromboembolic complications: In rare cases, blood clots or embolisms are possible, which are specifically counteracted by early mobilization and suitable preventive measures.
- Reactions to anesthesia: As with any operation, reactions to general or local anesthesia are possible, which is why you are always monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist.
- Possible touch-up: In some cases, a small touch-up may be useful to fully achieve the desired aesthetic result.
Through careful assessment of the indication, consistent use of gentle surgical techniques, the highest hygiene standards and close aftercare, I keep these risks as low as possible. Another important advantage of liposuction is that the removed fat cells do not regenerate, so the result is lasting if your weight remains stable.
Cost of liposuction in Stuttgart
Transparent prices, individually tailored to you
The costs of liposuction cannot be quoted as a flat rate because they depend heavily on individual circumstances. The decisive factors are above all the location, the extent of the treatment and the number of body regions to be treated, as well as the chosen type of anesthesia. Treating a small area such as a double chin therefore falls into a completely different range than contouring several large regions in one session.
For this reason, I draw up an individual and transparent cost plan for you as part of the personal consultation, taking all relevant factors into account, so that there are no hidden items for you. The costs of anesthesia and any overnight stay in the private clinic are shown separately and transparently. In the case of medically justified treatment of lipedema, coverage of costs by health insurance may also be considered under certain conditions.

Frequently asked questions about liposuction
Who is liposuction suitable for?
Liposuction is particularly suitable for people of normal or slightly increased body weight who suffer from individual, stubborn fat deposits that cannot be reduced despite a healthy diet and regular exercise. Good skin elasticity and a largely stable body weight are ideal, so that the skin can adapt optimally to the new contour after the procedure.
Liposuction is less suitable, on the other hand, as a method of general weight reduction, as it serves to shape the body silhouette in a targeted way and not to lose weight. Whether liposuction makes sense in an individual case is clarified in a detailed personal consultation.
What liposuction methods are there?
Over the decades, various liposuction methods have been developed, most of them based on the so-called tumescent technique, in which the fatty tissue is first loosened with a special solution. Established further developments include vibration-assisted, ultrasound-assisted, laser-assisted and water-jet-assisted liposuction.
In Dr. Zimmermann’s practice, water-jet-assisted liposuction (WAL) is preferred because it is particularly gentle on the tissue and leaves nerves, blood and lymph vessels largely intact. For very small and delicate areas, the manual suction technique is used in addition, which allows particularly sensitive contouring.
Which body regions can fat be removed from?
In principle, fat can be suctioned from almost any part of the body where stubborn fat deposits accumulate. The most frequently treated regions include the abdomen, waist, hips and flanks as well as the inner and outer thighs, the so-called saddlebags.
With sufficient surgical experience, more demanding areas such as the buttocks, knees, upper arms, back, calves and ankles can also be sculpted very well. Even in the facial area, for example on the double chin or the cheeks, precise fine contouring is possible. Which areas can be combined in one session is determined individually in the consultation.
How much fat can be removed with liposuction?
Even with the gentle water-jet technique, the body loses a considerable amount of fluid during suction, which it then has to compensate for via the circulation. For safety reasons, the amount suctioned per session is therefore limited, usually to about four to six liters, in order to avoid putting a strain on the circulation.
If a larger amount of fat is to be removed, the procedure is sensibly divided into several sessions. Detailed planning takes place after a careful examination as part of the consultation and is always based on the safety and well-being of the patient.
Which anesthesia is used for liposuction?
The choice of anesthesia depends on the extent of the treatment and your personal preference. For smaller areas such as the chin, the inner knees or the upper arms, local anesthesia, possibly combined with twilight sedation, is often a good option.
For the treatment of larger areas, general anesthesia is usually recommended, as there are clear maximum doses for local anesthetics. In any case, you will be monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist throughout the operation. Which method is the safest and most comfortable in an individual case is decided together in the consultation.
Is liposuction performed as an outpatient or inpatient procedure?
Depending on its extent and the type of anesthesia, liposuction can be performed on an outpatient basis or with an overnight stay in the private clinic. Even with general anesthesia, an inpatient stay is not strictly necessary; many patients can leave the clinic on the same day.
An overnight stay is recommended above all if a larger area was treated or if the patient would be alone at home on the first night. If the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, an escort should always be available for the journey home.
Is liposuction painful?
During the procedure itself, liposuction is painless thanks to the anesthesia. In the first few days after the operation, a sensation similar to severe muscle soreness in the treated area is normal, as are a feeling of tightness and some sensitivity to touch.
This discomfort can usually be controlled well with suitable painkillers and subsides significantly within a few days. The gentle water-jet technique also helps keep swelling and bruising, and therefore discomfort, comparatively low.
What should I bear in mind before and after liposuction?
Before the procedure, you should be as free as possible from conditions that impair wound healing and have good skin elasticity. Nicotine should be avoided before and after the operation, as it has a negative effect on healing. Realistic expectations and a largely stable body weight are just as important.
After liposuction, the focus is on physical rest for one to two weeks and consistently wearing compression garments for at least six weeks. In addition, careful care of the small incision sites and good sun protection are advisable. You will receive all individual instructions in good time in the form of a detailed information document.
Why do I have to wear compression garments after liposuction?
Compression garments are a key element of successful aftercare and should be worn consistently for at least six weeks. They exert even pressure on the treated tissue and thereby counteract swelling and fluid retention.
In addition, compression supports the even adaptation of the skin to the new body contour and promotes tissue regeneration, which contributes significantly to a harmonious and smooth final result. Consistently wearing the compression garments therefore has a direct influence on the quality of the result.
When can I go out and return to work after liposuction?
How quickly you can return to everyday life depends on the extent of the procedure and the treated region. Depending on the course of healing, most patients are able to go out in public again after about two to seven days.
With light office work, you can usually return to work after about one week; for physically demanding work, a break of about two weeks is recommended. Strenuous physical exertion should generally be avoided in the first one to two weeks.
When can I do sports again after liposuction?
Light exercise in the form of walks is encouraged shortly after the procedure, as it promotes blood circulation and prevents thrombosis. Proper sporting activities, on the other hand, should be avoided for about one to six weeks, depending on the sport and the treated region.
After the recovery period, the strain is increased again slowly and after consultation. More intensive sports and activities that put heavy strain on the treated region should only be resumed once the tissue has fully stabilized.
Does the skin retract after liposuction?
After liposuction, the skin contracts to a certain extent and adapts to the new body contours. How well this retraction works depends above all on skin elasticity, age and the amount of fat removed. With good skin elasticity, the adaptation is usually very satisfactory.
If the skin was already sagging beforehand or very large amounts of fat are removed, however, the skin may not tighten completely and loose areas of skin may remain. In such cases, an additional skin-tightening procedure such as a tummy tuck or an arm or thigh lift can be useful to achieve the desired result.
Does liposuction leave scars?
Liposuction only requires very small skin incisions through which the fine suction cannula is inserted. The resulting scars are correspondingly tiny and are deliberately placed in inconspicuous areas.
Over time, these small scars fade noticeably and are later barely perceptible. Careful scar care and consistent sun protection in the first few months further support a result that is as inconspicuous as possible.
How long does the result of liposuction last?
The result of liposuction is basically permanent, as the fat cells that have been removed do not regenerate. The treated areas therefore remain permanently slimmer, provided that body weight is kept stable.
With significant weight gain after the procedure, however, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, which is why a balanced diet and regular exercise are crucial for maintaining the result in the long term.
Can I gain weight again after liposuction?
Yes, renewed weight gain is possible after liposuction, as the procedure does not eliminate the body’s ability to store fat. Although the fat cells in the treated areas have been permanently reduced, the remaining cells can enlarge if there is a calorie surplus.
To secure the result permanently, a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise is therefore essential. With a stable weight, the improved body contour is maintained in the long term.
What are the risks of liposuction?
Liposuction is an established procedure with few complications when performed professionally; nevertheless, like any surgical procedure, it involves certain risks. The more common, mostly temporary side effects include swelling, bruising and numbness or hypersensitivity in the treated area.
Less frequently, uneven contours, dents or ripples may occur, as may infections or, in very rare cases, thromboembolic complications. Careful assessment of the indication, the gentle water-jet technique, the highest hygiene standards and close aftercare keep these risks as low as possible. All relevant points are explained openly and fully before the procedure.
Can liposuction be combined with other procedures?
Yes, liposuction can be combined very well with other procedures, and in many cases this even makes sense for a holistic and harmonious result. If there is excess skin in addition to the fat pads, liposuction can be combined with skin tightening such as a tummy tuck, an arm lift or a thigh lift.
In addition, the fat obtained during liposuction is ideal for autologous fat transfer, for example to fill out contours or for natural volume enhancement elsewhere. Whether and which combination makes sense in an individual case is discussed individually in the consultation.
Does liposuction help against cellulite?
Liposuction is primarily a contouring procedure and not a targeted treatment for cellulite. As cellulite is caused by the structure of the connective tissue, it cannot be reliably eliminated simply by removing fat.
In some cases, however, the appearance of the skin can still improve after liposuction, especially in combination with complementary procedures. You will receive a realistic assessment of the options for your individual situation in the personal consultation.
Will health insurance cover the costs of liposuction?
As a rule, the costs of liposuction are not covered by health insurance, as it is usually an aesthetic and therefore not medically necessary procedure.
An exception is the treatment of lipedema, a pathological fat distribution disorder. In such cases, coverage by the health insurer may be considered under certain conditions, provided there is a medical indication and conservative therapies have not led to the desired success. This should always be clarified with the responsible insurer in advance.
How much does liposuction cost in Stuttgart?
The costs of liposuction cannot be quoted as a flat rate, as they depend heavily on the location, the extent of the treatment, the number of regions to be treated and the type of anesthesia chosen. Treating a small area therefore falls into a completely different range than contouring several large regions in one session.
For this reason, an individual and transparent cost plan that takes all relevant factors into account is drawn up as part of the personal consultation. The costs of anesthesia and any overnight stay in the private clinic are shown separately and clearly, so there are no hidden items.
