For a firm, harmonious buttock contour, even after major weight loss
When the skin on the buttocks loses its firmness and sags, no amount of exercise or dieting can correct it, because excess, sagging skin cannot be trained away. A buttock lift in Stuttgart, colloquially also called a butt lift, is in such cases the only truly effective way to restore a firm, harmonious and well-shaped buttock contour. As a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, I perform this surgical procedure, in which the excess skin is removed in a targeted way and the tissue is tightened, using a proven and scar-sparing technique, very similar to a tummy tuck.
The path to a buttock lift very often follows major weight loss, for example after a diet or bariatric surgery, in which the fat disappears but the overstretched skin no longer retracts. But the natural aging process and a congenital weakness of the connective tissue can also cause the buttocks to lose firmness and projection and to sag. On this page, you will learn when a buttock lift makes sense, which surgical techniques are available, where the incisions run and what costs you can expect. A particularly gentle approach and a natural, harmonious result are important to me.

Reasons for a buttock lift
When sagging skin determines the shape of the buttocks
The reasons why people decide on a buttock lift almost always have to do with an excess of sagging skin that disturbs the contour of the buttocks and cannot be influenced by training or diet. In my experience, it is above all the following situations that bring patients to me:
- Major weight loss: After significant weight reduction, whether through dieting or after gastric reduction surgery, considerable excess skin often remains, because the overstretched skin no longer recedes.
- Natural aging process: Over the years, collagen and elastin decrease, the skin becomes thinner and loses its firmness, causing the buttocks to sag and lose projection.
- Weak connective tissue: A congenital weakness of the connective tissue can lead to early sagging of the buttocks regardless of weight.
- Pregnancies and hormonal changes: Hormonal changes and pregnancies can also have a lasting effect on the tissue structure.
As different as these causes are, what they have in common is that targeted training can strengthen the gluteal muscles but cannot eliminate the existing excess skin. This is exactly where the buttock lift comes in, removing the excess tissue and tightening the remaining skin to create a smooth, firm and harmonious contour.
When does a buttock lift make sense?
Excess skin or missing volume: that is the crucial question
Whether a buttock lift is the right treatment in an individual case depends largely on whether there is primarily excess skin or rather a lack of volume. This is a very important distinction, because flat, sagging buttocks do not automatically become round and firm just because skin is removed. So if the main problem is excess, hanging skin, for example after major weight loss, then surgical tightening is the right solution. If, on the other hand, it is primarily volume that is lacking, volume restoration is more likely to be indicated, and in many cases a combination of both makes sense, which I discuss in more detail below.
Another important requirement for a lastingly beautiful result is a stable body weight, ideally maintained for several months, as later major weight fluctuations could impair the result again. I carefully assess whether and in what form a buttock lift is an option for you as part of the personal consultation.
Our quality standards
Scar-sparing technique, natural contour, specialist experience
The buttock lift is one of the tightening procedures in body contouring and, like the tummy tuck, requires careful planning and an experienced, precise surgical technique. As a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and former senior physician at a practice specializing in body lifts, I bring exactly this experience with tightening procedures, which is decisive for a beautiful and stable result.
I pay particular attention to a scar-sparing incision, planned so that the subsequent scar is as inconspicuous and concealed as possible. My aim is always a natural, harmonious result that improves the contour of the buttocks without looking artificial, and I consistently rely on gentle procedures and close support throughout the entire healing phase. I take the time that such a procedure deserves for the consultation, the operation and the aftercare.
The buttock lift consultation
The basis for your individual result
Every buttock lift begins with a detailed, personal consultation in which I first get a precise picture of your initial situation, your wishes and your medical history. I assess the extent and location of the excess skin, the condition and firmness of the skin, the existing volume and the overall proportions, because all these factors determine which technique and which incision will deliver the best result in your case.
On this basis, I work out an individual treatment concept together with you and explain openly and honestly what can realistically be achieved. If volume restoration or an improvement in skin quality would also make sense in addition to the lift, I will say so clearly. You will receive transparent information about the procedure, scarring, aftercare and costs, as well as plenty of room for all your questions.

Buttock lift methods and surgical techniques
Upper and lower lift, depending on the findings
In a surgical buttock lift, sagging and excess skin and soft tissue is removed and the remaining skin is tightened, with different techniques used depending on the location of the excess skin. A basic distinction is made between the upper and the lower buttock lift, which differ in the incision and the treatment area and can also be combined if the findings warrant it.
Upper buttock lift
In the upper buttock lift, the excess skin in the upper part of the buttocks is removed, with the incision running along the upper edge of the buttocks in the area of the iliac crest. This technique lifts the buttocks and tightens the skin in the upper area, which leads to a significant improvement in contour and projection, especially after major weight loss with sagging tissue. The scar runs along the natural body line and, with careful planning, can easily be hidden under underwear.
Lower buttock lift (gluteal fold lift)
In the lower buttock lift, also known as a gluteal fold lift or banana roll lift, the excess skin in the lower part of the buttocks is removed, with the incision placed directly in the lower gluteal fold. The great advantage of this technique is that the subsequent scar runs exactly in the natural gluteal fold and is therefore barely visible later. This method is particularly suitable when excess, sagging tissue has formed below the buttocks, in the transition to the thigh, disturbing the clear definition of the gluteal fold.
Combination with liposuction
The result of a buttock lift can often be further refined by complementary, targeted liposuction, for example to harmonize the transitions to adjacent regions such as the hips or outer thighs and to sculpt the overall contour more finely. Whether such a combination makes sense in your case depends on the individual findings and is decided together in the consultation.
Combination with volume restoration
Because flat and sagging buttocks do not become round and full again simply by removing skin, it can make sense to combine the lift with simultaneous volume restoration if projection and fullness are lacking. This volume restoration is carried out with the body's own fat, previously harvested from another part of the body, and adds the missing volume to the lift. Detailed information on volume restoration alone can be found on my page on buttock augmentation.
Incisions and scars in a buttock lift
As inconspicuous as possible
A central concern in every buttock lift is a scar that is as inconspicuous as possible, which is why the incision is planned with the utmost care. Depending on the chosen technique, the scar runs either along the upper edge of the buttocks in the area of the iliac crest or directly in the lower gluteal fold, so in both cases in a natural line or fold of the body, where it remains well hidden under underwear or a bikini later on. With a careful, scar-sparing suturing technique and good wound healing, the scar fades considerably over the course of the first year.
As important as the surgical technique is, your own contribution is just as decisive, because ultimately it is your own body that heals the scar. Consistent scar care with suitable creams and scar gel, scar massage and reliable UV protection for about twelve months contribute significantly to making the scar as unobtrusive as possible in the end. So, in your own interest, you play an important part in achieving a beautiful final result.
The operation
Safe and gentle in the private clinic
Your buttock lift is performed under general anesthesia in a state-of-the-art clean-air operating room within a renowned private clinic in Stuttgart, supported by a well-practiced team of specialist staff who offer you the greatest possible safety before, during and after the operation. Thanks to close cooperation with an experienced anesthesiologist specializing in plastic surgery procedures, you will find the calm and peace of mind you need to place your trust in us.
On the day of the operation, I carefully mark the previously defined incision, then remove the excess skin and soft tissue in the planned area and tighten the remaining tissue before closing the wounds with a particularly fine suturing technique. Depending on the extent and the chosen combination, the procedure usually takes about two to three hours. After the operation, you are first monitored in the recovery area and, depending on the extent of the procedure, one or more overnight stays in the clinic for observation may be advisable, where you are well looked after in modern rooms.
After the buttock lift: healing and aftercare
Careful aftercare for a stable result
After a buttock lift, careful and consistent aftercare is crucial for an optimal result, which is why I follow up with you closely for a period of at least one year. Swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness in the surgical area are completely normal in the first few weeks and gradually subside. A central element of aftercare is wearing a special compression garment for about six weeks, which supports the tissue, promotes the reduction of swelling and stabilizes the result.
A special feature of the buttock lift concerns sitting and lying, because in order not to increase the tension on the fresh scar, you should avoid prolonged sitting in the first weeks, especially on hard surfaces, and, depending on the incision, also lying on your back as far as possible. You should refrain from physical exertion and sports for about six weeks, while light exercise in the form of walks is encouraged from the start to stimulate circulation and prevent thrombosis. Most patients are able to go out in public again after a few days; with light office work, you can usually return to work after about two weeks. I document your healing progress during the regular follow-up appointments, which is why these appointments are essential for an ideal result.
Possible risks of a buttock lift
When performed professionally, a buttock lift is a safe procedure; nevertheless, like any operation, it involves certain risks, which I will explain to you openly and fully before the procedure.
- Swelling and bruising: Temporary side effects that are normal in the first few weeks and subside on their own.
- Wound healing problems: Particularly in the heavily strained buttock area, wound healing can be delayed, which is why rest, compression and consistently avoiding nicotine are so important.
- Noticeable scarring: With a corresponding predisposition, the scar may be more noticeable, which we counteract with careful technique and consistent scar care.
- Secondary bleeding, infections and thrombosis: Possible in principle with any surgical procedure, but rare thanks to high hygiene standards and early mobilization.
- Sensory disturbances: Temporary numbness in the surgical area is possible and usually subsides.
Through my experience with tightening procedures, a particularly gentle and precise approach, the highest hygiene standards and close aftercare, I keep these risks as low as possible.

Tightening, volume and skin quality working together
Why a buttock lift is often part of a larger concept
A beautiful, harmonious buttock contour results from the interplay of three factors: firm skin, balanced volume and good skin quality. The buttock lift provides firm skin by removing the excess, but if volume is also lacking, I add volume restoration with autologous fat to the lift if required, and if the quality and firmness of the skin are to be improved, biostimulators such as Sculptra, based on poly-L-lactic acid, or Radiesse, based on calcium hydroxylapatite, are also used. These biostimulators do not primarily add volume but stimulate the body's own collagen production, contributing to firmer, tighter skin.
It is precisely this holistic view of tightening, volume and skin quality that is the key to a truly natural and coherent result, because only when these three aspects are coordinated does the harmonious contour that many patients want emerge. Which combination makes sense in your case is something we clarify together, with an open mind, in the consultation.
Buttock lift or buttock augmentation?
Two different goals that are often confused
The terms buttock lift and buttock augmentation are often mixed up, yet they pursue two quite different goals. In a buttock lift, excess, sagging skin is surgically removed and the tissue is tightened, whereas in buttock augmentation missing volume is built up to make the buttocks fuller and rounder. The difference is fundamental, because sagging buttocks primarily need a lift, whereas flat buttocks need volume.
If what you mainly lack is firm skin, a buttock lift is the right choice. If, on the other hand, the desire for more fullness and a rounder shape is the priority, buttock augmentation is the appropriate treatment. And because flat, sagging buttocks achieve their ideal shape neither through tightening alone nor through volume alone, a combination of both procedures is the best approach in some cases. I give you this honest assessment in the consultation so that you receive exactly the treatment that suits your concern.
Cost of a buttock lift in Stuttgart
Transparent prices and the question of health insurance
The cost of a buttock lift depends on the chosen technique and the individual effort involved. The upper buttock lift starts at around €7,500, the lower buttock lift or gluteal fold lift at around €4,500. Complementary measures such as liposuction or an autologous tissue technique also affect the price. The costs of anesthesia depend on the duration of the operation and, like any overnight stay in the private clinic, are shown separately and transparently. In general, the costs include my medical fee, the use of the clinic infrastructure including specialist staff and materials, the compression garment and all preparation and aftercare up to one year after the operation. Following your consultation, you will receive an individual and transparent cost plan from me.
On the frequently raised topic of health insurance, an honest assessment is important. If the pronounced excess skin causes a medical impairment, for example in the form of chronic skin irritation, recurring inflammation or eczema in the skin fold, it is in principle possible for the health insurer to cover part of the costs. However, as I run a purely private and self-pay practice without statutory health insurance accreditation, the operation cannot be billed directly to the insurer. In such a case, you can nevertheless try to apply for partial reimbursement from your health insurer in advance, which usually requires appropriate evidence of the existing symptoms.

Frequently asked questions about buttock lifts
What is a buttock lift?
A buttock lift, also colloquially called a butt lift, is a surgical procedure in which excess, sagging skin on the buttocks is removed and the remaining tissue is tightened. The aim is a firm, smooth and harmonious buttock contour.
Unlike buttock augmentation, in which volume is built up, a lift is exclusively about removing excess skin. In terms of technique, the procedure is similar to a tummy tuck and is performed under general anesthesia.
When does a buttock lift make sense?
A buttock lift makes sense above all when there is a significant excess of sagging skin that cannot be eliminated through exercise or diet. Typical causes are major weight loss, for example after a diet or gastric reduction surgery, as well as the natural aging process or a congenital weakness of the connective tissue.
If, on the other hand, it is primarily volume that is lacking rather than skin firmness, buttock augmentation is more likely to be indicated. Another important requirement for a lasting result is a stable body weight. Whether a lift is the right choice in an individual case is assessed in the consultation.
What is the difference between a buttock lift and buttock augmentation?
The two terms are often confused but have different aims. In a buttock lift, excess, sagging skin is surgically removed and the tissue is tightened. In buttock augmentation, by contrast, missing volume is built up to make the buttocks fuller and rounder.
Sagging buttocks primarily need a lift, whereas flat buttocks need volume. Since flat, sagging buttocks achieve their ideal shape neither through tightening alone nor through volume alone, a combination of both procedures is the best approach in some cases.
What buttock lift methods are there?
A basic distinction is made between the upper and the lower buttock lift. In the upper buttock lift, the excess skin in the upper part of the buttocks is removed, with the incision running along the upper edge in the area of the iliac crest. In the lower buttock lift, also called a gluteal fold lift or banana roll lift, the excess skin in the lower area is removed and the scar is placed directly in the gluteal fold.
Depending on the findings, both techniques can be combined, and liposuction for fine contouring or volume restoration with autologous fat can also be useful. The suitable method is determined individually.
Where are the scars after a buttock lift?
The incision is planned so that the subsequent scar is as inconspicuous as possible. Depending on the chosen technique, it runs either along the upper edge of the buttocks in the area of the iliac crest or directly in the lower gluteal fold, so in both cases in a natural line or fold of the body, where it can easily be hidden under underwear or a bikini.
With a careful, scar-sparing suturing technique and good wound healing, the scar fades considerably over the course of the first year. Consistent scar care with creams, scar gel, massage and UV protection contributes significantly to an inconspicuous result.
How is a buttock lift performed?
The buttock lift is performed under general anesthesia in a clean-air operating room within a private clinic in Stuttgart. After the incision has been carefully marked, the excess skin and soft tissue in the planned area is removed and the remaining tissue is tightened before the wounds are closed with a fine suturing technique.
Depending on the extent and the chosen combination, the procedure usually takes about two to three hours. After the operation, you are monitored in the recovery area and, depending on the extent, one or more overnight stays in the clinic for observation may be advisable.
What anesthesia is used for a buttock lift?
A surgical buttock lift is usually performed under general anesthesia, so that no pain whatsoever is felt during the entire procedure. Care is provided by an experienced anesthesiologist specializing in plastic surgery procedures.
This close and well-practiced cooperation ensures the greatest possible safety throughout the entire operation. The anesthesia costs depend on the duration of the operation and are shown separately and transparently.
How long does it take to heal after a buttock lift?
Most patients are able to go out in public again after a few days; with light office work, you can usually return to work after about two weeks. Swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness in the surgical area are normal in the first few weeks and gradually subside.
A central element of aftercare is wearing a special compression garment for about six weeks. Sports and physical exertion should be avoided for about six weeks, while light walks are encouraged from the start.
Why shouldn't you sit after a buttock lift?
In order not to increase the tension on the fresh scar and not to jeopardize wound healing, prolonged sitting, especially on hard surfaces, should be avoided as far as possible in the first weeks after a buttock lift. Depending on the incision, lying on your back should also be reduced at first.
During this time, lying on your stomach or on your side is preferred. This rest is important so that the scar can heal undisturbed and as inconspicuously as possible. The exact rules of conduct are discussed individually.
Can a buttock lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes, a buttock lift can usefully be combined with other procedures. It is often combined with targeted liposuction to harmonize the transitions to the hips and thighs. If volume is lacking in addition to excess skin, simultaneous volume restoration with autologous fat can be useful, because flat buttocks do not become round again simply by removing skin.
In addition, biostimulators such as Sculptra or Radiesse can further improve skin quality and firmness after the lift. Which combination is suitable in an individual case is decided together in the consultation.
What requirements should be met for a buttock lift?
An important requirement for a lastingly beautiful result is a stable body weight, ideally maintained for several months, as later major weight fluctuations could impair the result again. You should also be in good general health.
As with any surgical procedure, consistently avoiding nicotine before and after the operation is important, as smoking significantly impairs wound healing and blood circulation. All individual requirements are clarified in the detailed consultation.
What are the risks of a buttock lift?
When performed professionally, a buttock lift is a safe procedure, but like any operation it involves certain risks. Possible side effects include swelling, bruising and temporary sensory disturbances. Particularly in the heavily strained buttock area, wound healing problems can occur, which is why rest, compression and avoiding nicotine are so important.
Less common are secondary bleeding, infections, thrombosis or more noticeable scarring. Experience with tightening procedures, a gentle and precise approach, high hygiene standards and close aftercare keep these risks as low as possible. All relevant points are explained before the procedure.
Will health insurance cover the costs of a buttock lift?
If the pronounced excess skin causes a medical impairment, for example in the form of chronic skin irritation, recurring inflammation or eczema in the skin fold, it is in principle possible for the health insurer to cover part of the costs. However, this must be clarified with the insurer in advance, for which appropriate evidence of the symptoms is required.
As this is a purely private, self-pay practice without statutory health insurance accreditation, the operation cannot be billed directly to the insurer. However, patients can try to apply for partial reimbursement of costs from their health insurance.
How much does a buttock lift cost in Stuttgart?
The costs depend on the chosen technique and the individual effort involved. The upper buttock lift starts at around €7,500, the lower buttock lift or gluteal fold lift at around €4,500. Complementary measures such as liposuction or an autologous tissue technique also affect the price.
Included are the medical fee, the clinic infrastructure including specialist staff and materials, the compression garment and all preparation and aftercare up to one year after the operation. Anesthesia and any overnight stay are shown separately. After the consultation, an individual, transparent cost plan is drawn up.
Is the result of a buttock lift permanent?
The result achieved by a buttock lift is generally long-lasting, as the excess skin removed does not come back. However, a stable body weight is a prerequisite for a lastingly beautiful result, as major weight fluctuations can stretch the skin again and affect the contour.
The natural aging process also continues, so the skin may lose some of its firmness again over the years. With a healthy lifestyle and a stable weight, however, the result can be well maintained in the long term.
