Blood plasma or autologous blood therapy, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) for short, is an effective treatment option for naturally activating the regenerative potential of your skin and helping you achieve a significantly improved complexion. Especially for first fine lines, irregularities and stressed skin, the procedure has become indispensable in aesthetic and regenerative medicine and is therefore highly valued.

It is less about injecting wrinkles or building volume, as is achieved with fillers such as hyaluronic acid, but rather about a course of treatment for skin and hair, which shows in more firmness, freshness and radiance (glow) of the skin or in a strengthening of the hair roots (more on this later).

The treatment is therefore suitable for every skin type, for young as well as mature skin, whether as prevention or following a clear therapeutic approach.

How is this achieved?

A few milliliters of blood are taken with a fine needle, after which it is separated into its blood components and enriched using a special procedure (centrifugation). The blood plasma obtained in this way contains no red blood cells, but instead a large number of cell-activating and regeneration-promoting substances such as valuable growth factors, which are contained, among other things, in the platelets (thrombocytes). The blood plasma obtained in this way is then injected superficially into the desired areas of skin, immediately triggering regeneration processes and collagen synthesis. As the treatment causes tiny micro-bleeds, the procedure became known internationally among celebrities as the “vampire facelift”.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Which areas are suitable for a vampire facelift / PRP?

In principle, PRP can be used all over the body. Typically, however, the areas of skin treated are those that are exposed to environmental influences such as sunlight, cold and the like, have comparatively thin skin and are therefore more susceptible to signs of aging or show signs of stressed skin. As a rule, these are the entire facial region, especially the lower eyelids, the mouth region, the forehead and cheeks, as well as the décolleté.

Another special feature of PRP is that it strengthens the hair roots, which is used therapeutically for thinning hair or incipient hair loss, or to stabilize the hair roots after a hair transplant.

Is the treatment painful?

As we first coat the areas to be treated with a very effective anesthetic cream, the treatment is usually only slightly painful or hardly painful at all and is therefore very easy to tolerate.

How can I prepare for the treatment?

Please come to the treatment without make-up and ideally with pre-cleansed skin (e.g. with micellar water or similar). Make sure that there is no inflammation in the area to be treated and that you have not recently undergone another skin treatment (peel, laser, etc.). We absolutely must know this in advance, as PRP treatment may then not be carried out immediately afterwards. You should also not have taken any anticoagulant medications such as ASA/aspirin or heparin for up to 2 weeks before the treatment.

What should I bear in mind after the treatment?

Depending on your predisposition, you should expect some swelling and redness and possibly small pinpoint hematomas (bruises). In most cases, however, you can go out in public again very quickly. After the treatment, we recommend that you rest at home for a while and cool the treated areas. You should avoid make-up for 48 hours after the treatment to prevent inflammation/infection. You should also strictly avoid direct sunlight/solariums. After that, you can care for your skin as usual.

How many sessions are recommended?

As described above, the therapeutic approach lies not in an immediate effect but in stimulating the body's own regenerative potential and collagen synthesis. On the one hand, it therefore takes some patience until the ingredients of the blood plasma unfold their effect; on the other hand, due to the different cell metabolism of each individual skin cell or hair root, several sessions are needed to reach as many cells as possible and to stabilize and further advance the therapeutic effect (boosting). According to numerous study results, at least 3 treatment cycles 4 weeks apart should therefore be carried out.

When can results be expected?

As every person, every tissue and therefore the regenerative potential of the skin are highly individual, no general answer can be given. However, experience shows that by the second session at the latest, i.e. after about 8 weeks, clear improvements in the complexion in the sense of increased firmness, or a strengthening of the hair roots, can already be seen.

How long does the effect last?

After a complete treatment cycle (3 sessions), an effect of over 12 months can be expected. As this is, in the broadest sense, a “course of treatment for the skin”, but your skin continues to be subject to age-related changes and exposed to environmental factors, regular treatment cycles certainly make sense in order to lastingly strengthen the skin's regenerative potential by stimulating collagen synthesis.
