While some women want more breast volume, many other women suffer from breasts that are too large, which can cause considerable restrictions and complaints in everyday life or during sports. Usually, a rapid increase in mammary gland tissue occurs during puberty, and women of any body type can be affected, as breast growth is hormonally controlled and genetically determined.
Typical complaints are poor posture with chronic tension in the shoulder and neck region, pain on the shoulders from constricting bra straps, pulling pain during sporting activities and unpleasant eczema in the area of the inframammary folds. The impairments sometimes go so far that affected women no longer dare to visit swimming pools or saunas because of unpleasant looks, as they feel they are reduced to their breasts.
Surgical breast reduction can make a significant contribution here, helping you move freely again and feel more self-confident and comfortable as a woman.
Breast reduction itself is one of the most frequently performed operations on the female breast. Thanks to my many years of specialization in this field of aesthetic plastic surgery, I can offer you particularly gentle and scar-sparing surgical techniques that can achieve very natural and shape-stable results. By deliberately avoiding drains and following a special aftercare regime, you will also recover very quickly from your procedure.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about breast reduction
Where does the operation take place?
Your greatest possible safety and health, as well as a high level of comfort, are very close to my heart. That is why I work with selected private clinics in the Stuttgart area, which on the one hand offer you the highest medical standards and hygiene guidelines and the best possible medical care, and on the other hand guarantee you the greatest possible comfort for your well-being during your stay. Depending on availability, you benefit from single rooms with private bathrooms, are competently and caringly looked after by medical and non-medical specialist staff, and are always in the best hands, even in the unlikely event of a medical problem. I will visit you regularly after the operation and ask how you are. Should it ever be necessary, the entire team and I are also available at night. So you can relax completely.
How can I prepare for my operation?
Sensible preparation for the operation begins with letting your loved ones, your family, friends or the person you trust know in good time that you will have to take things very easy for around a week after the operation. As we cannot issue you a sick note ourselves, you will usually have to take vacation days. So plan in good time to be able to take some time out.
For mothers of young children in particular, it is important to secure support from your partner, the grandparents or friends in advance with regard to the choice of operation date. Leaving this question unresolved leads to unnecessary stress and is by no means conducive to wound healing, a quick recovery and ultimately your result.
When you can return to work depends largely on your occupation. Light administrative work can usually be resumed after one week; strenuous activities such as skilled trades, elderly care and nursing require a longer break. Ideally, schedule your preferred date at the beginning of a planned vacation.
Please remember to stop taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin (ASA, acetylsalicylic acid) in good time (14 days before your surgery date). Other blood-thinning medications such as heparin or Marcumar must also be stopped or, if necessary, switched in good time in consultation with your family doctor.
It is just as important to be certain that everything is fine with your breasts. For your own safety, I will therefore always ask you to provide me with the most recent possible examination findings of your breasts from your gynecologist shortly before your operation (ideally an ultrasound examination, and a mammogram if appropriate for women aged 50 and over).
I also need current blood values from you, obtained through a blood test at your family doctor. In particular, a small blood count and the coagulation values are indispensable for the operation to go ahead. You will receive precise details in preparation for the operation.
If you smoke, you should stop your nicotine consumption completely for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the operation, as nicotine can have a very unfavorable effect on the healing process.
How can I prepare my home for the first few days after the operation?
- Have a few comfortable pillows ready so that you can lie and sleep with your upper body raised for the first few days
- Get a few soft, commercially available cooling pads that you can place around the lower part of your breasts after the operation. In many cases, this relieves any feeling of tightness and helps prevent swelling
- Severe pain is very rare, but nevertheless make sure you have enough painkillers at home so that, in the unlikely event of stronger pain, you are not “chasing the pain” but can give your body the rest it needs. Paracetamol 500 mg for the first few days and ibuprofen 400 mg from the third day are both available without a prescription and are usually completely sufficient. (I will of course give you specific dosage instructions)
- Arrange in advance for someone to walk your dog, for example, as you should keep your arms, and therefore your chest muscles, away from heavy pulling and strain for at least the first few weeks
- The most important thing is and remains physical rest, which also prevents painful swelling and unnecessary muscle irritation, for example. Give your body this time – after all, you want to be fit again quickly
- You will receive further recommendations in our personal consultation
What should I bring for my operation?
For your stay, it is best to pack a sports bag or a small trolley with the essentials such as toiletries, dark, loose, non-tight clothing, a pajama top that buttons at the front if possible, your smartphone and whatever else you need to get by. It is best to leave jewelry and other valuables at home; please remove all piercings and, in times of coronavirus, please do not forget your face mask. Please do not apply lotion or other skin care products on the day of the operation. This would make it unnecessarily difficult to apply the planning markings on the day of surgery.
What happens after the operation?
While still in the operating room, we put on the support bra that was previously fitted and ordered for you, which you will now wear for the next 6 weeks. If the operation is planned on an outpatient basis, I will hold the discharge consultation with you on the same day after sufficient recovery, carry out a final dressing change if necessary and give you all the necessary documents and recommendations for the way ahead and for home. In the case of an inpatient stay (usually for 1 night), the discharge consultation usually takes place on the morning of the following day. Depending on the wound situation and the course of healing, another brief dressing change takes place after a few days, after which we usually see each other at the regular follow-up appointments 2–3 weeks after the procedure.
What should I bear in mind after my operation?
For the next 6 weeks, you should wear your support bra consistently around the clock, except during personal hygiene. It counteracts swelling and also contributes significantly to the subsequent shaping and thus to your result.
For the next 6 weeks, you must also refrain from sporting activities such as jogging, cycling, horse riding, trampolining, chest muscle training, EMS and the like. You should also strictly avoid lifting heavy loads > 5 kg or strenuous overhead work. Mothers of small children are advised to organize appropriate support in advance.
Activities such as walking or isolated squats (if indispensable) as well as non-strenuous everyday tasks can, on the other hand, be resumed quickly. So you are not bedridden – on the contrary – your body and circulation will be glad after the anesthesia if you gradually get them going again with fresh air and gentle activity.
How are the costs of breast reduction made up?
The costs of the procedure depend on whether or not you want to make use of the option of an overnight stay in the private clinic. Especially if you have a long journey or less relaxed conditions at home, I can warmly recommend at least one night so that you can recover fully. The price for a breast reduction is approx. €5,000 plus anesthesia and overnight costs in the private clinic. These are invoiced to you separately.
