Many patients find sagging skin on the upper arms particularly distressing – for both aesthetic and functional reasons, as a harmonious body image is often closely linked to one's own well-being. The excess skin often develops as a result of natural aging processes, after major weight loss or due to a genetic weakness of the connective tissue. The affected skin increasingly loses firmness, causing excess tissue to form and contours to appear less defined.

A surgical arm lift in Sindelfingen can provide targeted relief here by gently removing the excess tissue and reshaping the silhouette. Thanks to modern, particularly precise surgical techniques, the arms can be shaped to achieve a natural-looking, aesthetically pleasing result that not only improves outward appearance but often also strengthens body confidence and can contribute to a new self-image. Many patients afterwards report a noticeable gain in ease, self-confidence and quality of life.

Indications and methods of the arm lift

The arm lift is particularly suitable for patients who suffer from pronounced excess skin on the upper arms – often as a result of significant weight loss, age-related loss of elasticity or a genetic weakness of the connective tissue. These changes not only lead to a less defined contour but are also perceived by many of those affected as functionally restrictive or aesthetically distressing.

Depending on the initial findings, our practice uses a combined hybrid technique, in which we first loosen and suction off excess subcutaneous fat by means of gentle water-jet liposuction (Bodyjet) and then specifically tighten the remaining excess skin. Water-jet assistance reduces tissue trauma and protects lymph vessels, blood vessels and nerves, thus generally promoting less swelling and a quicker recovery. In the second step, the skin is tightened with a carefully planned incision along the inner upper arm; the wound is closed with low tension and layer by layer in order to achieve scarring that is as discreet as possible.

Depending on skin quality, tissue thickness and the distribution of residual fat deposits, isolated water-jet liposuction (Bodyjet) can already achieve a noticeable improvement in contour in mild cases; with more pronounced excess skin, the combination of water-jet liposuction and classic tightening (arm lift) is the procedure of choice. In all variants, the goal is a harmonious, slim arm line with the shortest possible downtime and high predictability of the result.

Advantages of an arm lift

More harmonious contour

Targeted tightening of the skin leads to a clearly defined arm line and creates a more harmonious overall silhouette.

Firmer, smoother skin

By removing excess skin and repositioning the remaining tissue structures, the skin looks visibly firmer and smoother.

Lasting results

The results achieved are generally stable in the long term. With a stable body weight and a healthy lifestyle, the improved contour is maintained for many years.

Improved freedom of movement and well-being

In addition to the aesthetic aspect, many patients also benefit functionally from the operation – clothes fit better and sporting activities are more comfortable.

Before the operation

What you should know in advance:

It of course begins with a detailed consultation in which the individual findings, anatomical conditions and personal wishes are discussed. On this basis, a tailor-made treatment plan is drawn up that takes into account both the surgical method and the healing process. The goal is a natural, harmonious result that suits your body and improves your quality of life.

You should also know before the procedure that conscientious preparation contributes significantly to the success of the treatment. Stable health, abstaining from nicotine in the weeks before the operation and following all medical recommendations help to avoid complications and promote optimal wound healing.

The arm lift procedure and aftercare

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. After the incision has been carefully marked, excess tissue is removed and the skin is tightened. Liposuction is often also performed to optimize the contour and make the result particularly even. This is followed by careful wound closure with fine sutures. A special compression bandage supports healing and reduces swelling.

Physical exertion should be avoided in the first few days after the procedure. Slight swelling and bruising are normal and usually subside quickly. Sporting activities are possible again after about 4 to 6 weeks. The scar fades over time and usually becomes inconspicuous.

Cost of an arm lift

The cost of an arm lift depends on the individual findings, the chosen technique and the extent of the procedure. The base price for a classic arm lift starts at around €5,000. For procedures using the hybrid technique – i.e. in combination with gentle water-jet liposuction (Bodyjet) – the total costs are correspondingly higher due to the additional effort. After a personal examination, you will receive a detailed, transparent cost estimate and comprehensive advice on the treatment procedure. We will be happy to answer your questions and, if required, also inform you about possible financing options.

Risks and possible side effects

When performed professionally, the arm lift is a very safe procedure with a high level of patient satisfaction. Nevertheless, patients should know that – as with any surgical procedure – certain risks cannot be completely ruled out. These include secondary bleeding, infections, wound healing problems or visible scars. Slight swelling and hematomas occur almost regularly in the first few days after the procedure and are an expression of the normal healing process; they usually subside quickly and without consequences. Good preparation, following all medical recommendations and consistent aftercare, which includes in particular compression, hygiene and physical rest, are decisive for a course with few complications.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about arm lifts in Sindelfingen

Who is an arm lift suitable for?

The procedure is suitable for women and men who suffer from sagging upper arm skin or voluminous upper arms despite exercise and a balanced diet, for example after major weight loss or with age-related loss of elasticity. Tightening can also make sense in the case of a fat distribution disorder with bothersome residual fat deposits on the inner upper arm, often in combination with gentle liposuction as a hybrid technique.

How is the operation performed?

The arm lift takes place in the private clinic in Stuttgart that cooperates with our practice and is usually performed under general anesthesia or, for smaller findings, possibly under twilight sedation. Excess skin and any fatty tissue present are removed to achieve a slimmer, defined contour. Specialized plastic surgery techniques protect the blood vessels, nerves and lymph vessels running along the inner side as well as possible. After careful planning, the scar is placed on the inner side of the upper arm so that it later heals as inconspicuously as possible. After the operation, compression is applied with a bandage or garment; depending on the duration of the procedure and individual risk, an overnight stay in the clinic may be advisable.

What are the risks of an arm lift?

As with any surgical procedure, risks can never be completely ruled out. Minor bruising, longer-lasting swelling or temporary changes in sensation in the forearm and fingers occur more frequently. In individual cases, minor wound healing problems may occur, which usually heal without consequences and do not affect the aesthetic result. Unfavorable factors include diabetes, severe obesity and smoking. Careful preparation including abstaining from nicotine, consistent compression treatment for six weeks, well-controlled blood sugar, meticulous hygiene in the armpit region and physical rest are therefore important. You will receive detailed preparation and aftercare instructions by e-mail after the consultation.

How long does healing take and when is the result visible?

A distinction must be made between internal healing and external wound healing. The skin sutures usually heal within 2 to 3 weeks. The scars should be consistently cared for and massaged for 9 to 12 months; high sun protection is important during this phase. A representative result usually appears after about six weeks, when the worst of the swelling has largely subsided with consistent compression and rest.

Can the arm lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes, a combination is possible, for example with a breast lift, a lateral flank lift, possibly a tummy tuck or simultaneous liposuction. Whether a combination makes sense depends on your circumstances and the expected total operating time. Especially after massive weight loss, also tightening adjacent areas can produce a particularly harmonious overall result. Nevertheless, what is medically feasible should always be checked for whether it makes sense – less is often more.
